Knights Win in 7

The Alexandria A's hosted the DC Knights at West Potomac HS for the DC Wood Fall Ball opener on Thursday night. After an eventful first inning that resulted in a 3-2 Knights lead, the game was delayed for over 30 minutes due to lightning detected in the distance.  When the game resumed the Knights expanded the lead to 5-2 in the top of the 3rd, on a hit batsman and a walk, both with bases loaded. In the bottom of the frame, the A's bounced back to narrow the lead to one, on an RBI single by Manny Rivera and Ricky Green's daring attempt to steal home that ultimately succeeded after an overthrow at third. In the 4th and 5th, the A's took a 9-5 lead on RBI hits by Tom Lucchese and George Omeir, a duo that would ultimately combine for 5 hits and 5 RBIs. Green also went 3-for-4 for the A's.

In the top of the 6th, with the time limit looming, Knights batters Ben Bonnet and Rafael Hernandez reached base on a dropped 3rd strike and a single, respectively, and then advanced on a ground out. Dylan Homick hammered a shot to the left field fence to narrow the lead to two, with apparently only enough time for one more inning. In the 7th, after a walk and singles by Joey Ingler and Randall Blevins , Woody Jang hit another hard shot to left field that put the Knights up 10-9 just after the time limit. Knights starter Hernandez re-entered the game in the bottom of the 7th to finish what he started, and the A's went down quietly.

The A's will face the Mudcats at 5pm Saturday at Mount Vernon, and the Knights play next on Sunday at 2pm vs the Navigators at McLean HS.
