Mallards win Game 2 10-1

Following a convincing win in game 1 of the series, the Mallards looked to continue what had been a good start offensively. The game began modestly as both lineups had nothing to show in the first three innings after 9 straight retired batters.
It wasn’t until the fourth inning that the Silver bullets managed to grab the first lead of the game. Sam Meisenberg reached base on a single and scored shortly afterward due to a throwing error by the catcher that plated the first run of the game.

The Mallards quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth after keen base running by Tyler McCarthy - scoring from second on an incomplete 6-4-3 attempt as Alex Richards was able to beat out the throw from second.

Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, a leadoff tater by Kyle Kirsch ignited the Mallards rally as they went on to notch at least two runs in each of the following innings. Timely base runners and free swings boosted the Mallards to a 9 run lead by the 9th inning, while stout pitching and defense held the silver bullets at bay. Cam Kostyack belted a two-run blast to left center for the Mallards in the 6th, while Colin ‘meatstick’ Cantwell launched a moon shot to deep left field to tally the Mallard’s third home run of the night and push the lead to 7.

The efforts of Mallard’s pitcher Tyler McCarthy were nothing short of stellar. Pounding the silver bullets with a healthy dose of knee-high fastballs, McCarthy led the flock to the championship round with a CG win; surrendering just 1 unearned run on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 11 strikeouts.

The Mallards await their next opponent, either the Barons or the A's, with Game 1 slated for Wednesday 7/24 8pm at Lake Braddock.
