The Mt. Pleasant Mudcats and the Alexandria A’s squared off at McLean HS on Saturday June 22 and both teams went the distance.

Zach Belanger pitched for the Mudcats, striking out 5 A’s batters on the night.  Mudcats leadoff hitter, Matt Monroe, and six-spot hitter, Aron Zargarpur, combined for 5 hits and 6 RBI’s.  Monroe and Zargarpur gave Zach Belanger the support he needed to fire the ball in for 8 solid innings of work on the mound.

A’s pitcher, Ralphy Hernandez, threw 6 and 1/3 innings striking out 6 Mudcats.   A’s batters Tom Garboczi and Nicholas Anderson combined for 5 hits.

The Mudcats tied the game in top of the ninth with a sacrifice fly to center field.  In the bottom of the ninth the A’s were able to get the winning run to second base thanks to a leadoff double down the left field line by Taylor Bryner.  The double proved to be futile as Mudcats reliever, Will Keough, shut the door forcing the next A’s batters to: pop out to the shortstop, strikeout swinging, and pop out to the second baseman.  The game ended with the winning run stranded on second base.  Final score, A's 9, Mudcats 9.

The tie proves that league competitiveness is extremely high going into the home stretch of the regular season, and the championship title is up for grabs.  The Mt. Pleasant Mudcats continue to develop their talent, and the renewed DC Wood league continues to grow.
